Beautiful Burlesque

All comments()

The female body is naturally beautiful, and as a woman being able to move your body in a feminine and sensual way is the ultimate self confidence boost. If you’ve been to a burlesque show you’ll know what I’m on about, if you haven’t then I highly recommend you catch a show. Burlesque is a melting pot of cheeky seduction, and this suggestive performance may just leave you with a mischievous sense of desire.

A little curious, ladies? Leru from Moonglow Burlesque runs classes from ¥70 to help get you into the swing of things. She’s been dancing and teaching swing dance for ten years and is especially passionate about the Jazz Era. Leru explained that burlesque helps you know how to feel your body. And while it is often associated with striptease it really shouldn’t be, burlesque has the pizazz of flamboyant costumes, high heels, vintage clothing and beautiful women!

Classes include stretch and some cardio- such as the Cancan, so it’s definitely a fun way to get healthy. There’s also core work, so expect a bit of sexy toning. Now it might not be for everyone but once you’ve graduated you can even choose to perform on stage with the troupe.

If you’re keen to have some fun, throw on a beautiful vintage corset, long gloves, feathers and glitter then I recommend you try a class. Leru told me, “Burlesque is something that naturally every woman has in her” and I’d have to agree, it will leave you with that extra bounce in your step! There is a four week course on the Vintage Showgirl Chorus Line starting November 27th, where you can learn the style of the 1930s! Classes start at 7:30pm every Tuesday, see you there!

If you’d prefer to watch; Moonglow Burlesque have a 1950s style burlesque show on November 24th called "Moonglow Cabaret 1955". It runs for one hour, with 14 acts and a cast of 12. Just head down to the revamped CD Blues Café from 9pm. Advance tickets can be purchased at the venue or at Modernista and are ¥150 or ¥200 at the door, (Inc 1 drink).
