Ice Skating  

The action of moving on ice using ice skates.

Perhaps the most popular outdoor ice-skating venue, complete with sleighs! Skates are available for rent.

->    All Star Ice Rink (Solana)

    Indoor, large ice rink used for leisure and professional competitions. Excellent coaching     available.

->    Hokay Skating Center

    Indoor, host rink for international hockey competitions. Great coaching options, skates are     available for rent.

->    Shangmei Rink (Xidan)

Indoor, large ice rink covering 1,600 square metres with elliptic ice field of 900 square metres. Watch yourself skate on the giant screen. Skates, protective gear, clothes are available for rent. Complete with dressing room and gym.

Ice Chairing / Ice Biking

The action of moving on ice using a local contraption known as an ‘ice-chair’ or ‘ice-bike’ with homemade poles.

Sledding / Sledging / Tobogganing

The action of sliding either prone or seated on a ‘sled’ down a snow covered hill or mountain.

A man-made snow hill best for beginners and children. Tubing and skiing is also available. Gear is available for rent.

A classic park, man-made slope for tubing and sledding. Perfect for children.

->    Longtan Lake Park

More of a local park, off the tourist trail. The man-made snow hill built for winter carnival is great for tubing.

Ice Hockey

A fast-paced team sport played on ice; teams have five skaters and a goalie. Skaters use composite or wooden sticks to shoot a rubber puck into the opposing teams net.


->    Hokay Ice Center (Gaobeidian)

The Beijing International Ice Hockey (BIIH) league consists of both male and female players ranging from ex-national team players, semi-pros to beginners. It’s best to join either during October or at the end of the Chinese New Year holiday, but the league accepts players throughout the whole season (September to May) so it’s not too late to jump on board for this winter. If you’d rather just watch then you can also head down to the rink on Sundays.

Ice Climbing

The action of ascending inclined ice formations such as frozen waterfalls or cliffs. Appropriate safety equipment must be used.


->    Taoyuan Xiangu Nature Park or Peach Garden Paradise (Miyun County)

90kms away from central Beijing, there a lake, six waterfalls, thirteen ponds, one spring and four pools. Taoyuan Xianpu Waterfall is more than seventy meters high.

A popular ice-climbing location covering 9 square kilometres. There are several pools, falls and cliffs with steep vertical drops – perfect for ice climbing.

Skiing & Snowboarding

->    Nanshan Ski Resort

Extremely popular, located 60 kilometres northeast of Beijing. Perfect for all levels of Alpine skiers and snowboarders. Home to China’s only international standard half-pipe for snowboarders and China’s first advanced mogul trail. Features 21 runs and 8 ski trails. The Mellow snowboard park has various rails and ramps. Other activity options include: snowmobiling, tobogganing and tubing. New season gear available for hire.
Shengshuitou Village, Miyun County

->    Beijing Huaibei International Ski Resort

Located in Jiugukou covering an area of 9.6 square kilometres. Features a 3,100m ski trail and the highest cable car in Beijing (1,200m).

->    Jundushan Ski Resort
Located 34km from Beijing, covering an area of 1.3 square kilometres. Great for night skiing / boarding. Features slalom run, cross-country snowmobile path and hot springs close by. Slopes face south so prepare for slush. Other activity options include: snowmobiling, tobogganing and tubing. Equipment and coaching available.
