Feline Fun is the Puurfect Way to Relax

All comments()

Life in the city can be stressful and sometimes it can be difficult to switch off. For those cat lovers out there, coming home to a little fur ball of joy can be just the thing to help you unwind. Cats can be great company; perhaps you are an expat here and feeling a little homesick, that little purring friend can be a huge comfort. However, most of us are unable to commit to having a pet. Maybe we are only here for a short period of time or are just too busy struggling to even look after ourselves! For those of you who long to have a feline friend but are unable to, a visit to one of Beijing’s cat cafes may be the puurfect solution.  It is a proven fact that stroking a pet can reduce blood pressure. The State University of New York did a study on stockbrokers with high blood pressure. They discovered that the blood pressure of those with pets was lower than those without. In addition, cat therapy is becoming increasingly popular as a method to treat all kinds of mental, emotional and physical conditions. It is becoming more and more common to use trained cats in nursing homes to interact with the patients and it has even been suggested that cat therapy can prolong the life expectancy of those with terminal illnesses. Sure, this is not for everyone. It is definitely a love it or hate it kind of place. However, even for novelty’s sake, going to a cat café at least once is always fun. A number of cat cafes have popped up in Beijing over the past few years but for a less commercial atmosphere check out L’infusion in Wudaoying Hutong. It is a quirky little place in the middle of the Hutong and whilst you stroke you can sip on a cup of almond flavoured coffee. The owner has said that he did not intentionally open a cat café but merely loved cats and thought it better they were getting lots of attention in the cafe  then being stuck at home alone. The cats all have gentle temperaments and put up with A LOT from little excited children. The tiniest of the little fur balls are kept in a separate nursery but you can still enjoy their cuteness through the window and take photos if you wise.
