Cuba Restaurant

All comments()

Recently opened Caribeno is the first Cuban restaurant to open in Beijing.  The chef, a Cuban man with a friendly face, tells me a little about his home country; blue skies, clear sea waters and delicious, fresh cuisine I wonder to myself why did he ever leave!? The interior is classy and clean with nice details such as the flowers on every table. While we wait for our food we sip on a refreshing cucumber drink and chat to the waiter. He explains that we chose the wrong day to come, happy hour is every Wednesday! The restaurant strives to promote Cuban culture, not only in terms of food but also cultural activities. They regularly hold events such as Cuban dance nights with live music. The food is an African-Spanish hybrid with lots of meat and fruit. The fruit salad is perfect for the hot Beijing summer and the shredded beef with black bean rice is especially tasty.  This is the kind of place you need to come hungry! By the end, we can barely move we are so full but of course there is always room for dessert so we opt for the rice pudding with cinnamon and the more unusual mojito cheesecake.  We are not done yet! As we discover its tradition to have a post meal coffee. It is somewhere in between an Americano and an espresso and goes down nicely. Food prices range from about 70 100rmb. The chef recommends the nachos at 62rmb. Perfect for a quick business lunch or an evening social, Caribeno is set to be very successful. The location is a little odd but definitely worth the extra few minutes to find it!
